THE SERIES ENDS WITH A BANG!
Second weekend in September as usuall was the last race of Latvian downhill longboarding series called ‘’GiGa Olympics’’ in honor of godfather of Latvian skateboarding – Gints Gailītis.
Riders from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia took part in the race – total of 40+ riders!
3 riders were still fighting for series title – Gustavs Gailītis, Kārlis Karlsons, Mārtiņš Kivlinieks.
First there were other races held – in slalom Gailītis won, in push race Toms Dreiblats was the fastest, but in slide jam Karlsons took top honors.
In downhill qualification Gustavs won, fallowed by Dreiblats, Gustavs Zēgners, Karlsons. Kivlinieks fell and ended up in 31st place.
In Masters group finals Ģirts Vārtiņš, 2014 and 2015 series champion was unstopabble, fallowed by 2016 series champion Edžus Konošonoks. 3rd was Lithuanian rider Darius Stankevičius.
In Women group Lauma Stepanova took another win, Liene Dzīvīte was second and Kitija Blūma third – these 3 ladies took also top3 positions in series overall.
In junior group it was a tight battle between Zēgners and Lithuanian young star Rokas Miečius. Zēgners won and also won the series. Third in race and series went to Lukass Kellijs.
In Open group Kivlinieks didn’t manage to get in top8, losing his title hopes. In small final Klāvs Balamovskis took 5th place, fallowed by Ralfs Gailītis, Toms Dreiblats and Alvils Bijons. In big final 4th place went to junior rider Zēgners, 3rd place to Kaspars Balamovskis. The winner of race and series was decided between Karlsons and Gailītis – the lead changed 4 times, but Gailītis took the win and earned his 4th title in 5 years!
