‘’Alpacas second chance 2014’’ downhill race coming up!

Latvian downhill longboarding series 2014 last event is just around the corner! The last race ‘’Alpacas second chance 2014’’ will happen on 20-21 September next to recreation complex ‘’Rakši’’ (GPS coordinates – 57.275887 , 25.193367 ).

On this course also ‘’Alpaca speed festival race was held in 2013 and 2014 – check the videos

The course is less than a kilometer long, fast with top speed a bit over 80km/h (average speed 65km/h for fastest) – raw run

Riders will compete in 4 groups – juniors, ladies, Masters & OPEN.

On the first day we will have practice runs & qualification but on second more practice and head-to-head finals.

Entry fee is 30 EUR (juniors 20 EUR). If you register later than 16th September 23:59 + 10 EUR are added (you pay on the race place),

Racers can compete in just one day, but it won’t affect the entry fee!

As usual we are planning to rent a guest house for riders and their friends – bed will be 10 EUR per person (you must bring your own sleeping bag/pillow).

Gustavs Gailītis, Jānis Jirgens, Oleg Ramanovich – top3 guys in the ranking! The champion will be the one who wins the last race (or finishes highest)!

Gustavs won the 1st race (Priekuļi), but felt in the finish and broke his foot. He wasn’t able to praticipate in the 2nd race, but came back and won 3rd one (Madona).

Jānis was 5th in Priekuļi, won Rakši, but made a big mistake in Madona – he felt and finished just 9th losing 1st place in the ranking.

Oleg had a solid season (6th in Priekuļi, 3rd in Rakši, 5th in Madona), he also participated at ‘’Kozakov challenge 2014’’.

Theoretically there are 6 more guys that might win the series, but it won’t be easy! Also there are few fast names on the rider list who haven’t raced this year, so finals and fight for top10 in the series overall will be spectacular!

“Madona longboard challenge” champions have been crowned!

Madona Podium

On 30-31 August in Madonas city sports and recreation complex ‘’Smeceres Sils’’ two day international longboard event was held called ‘’Madona longboard challenge 2014’’! Riders from 5 countries attended the race – Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Russia and Italy.

On the first day the 3rd race of Latvian downhill longboarding series 2014 was held. In the qualification in both OPEN and junior groups the fastest was Toms Dreiblats. 2nd place went to Gustavs Gailītis, for whom it was first downhill event after breaking his foot on the 1st race of the series. 3rd place went to Jānis Jirgens, 4th Mārtiņš Liepiņš, 5th Rytis Stankevičius.

In Masters group Edžus Konošonoks dominated the qualification, but for ladies Elīza Gailīte was unbeatable again.

The finals were exciting in all the groups and luckily there weren’t serious injuries.

In juniors Toms Dreiblats dominated 4th race in a row winning all the heats, leaving behind him Ernests Liepiņš, Gustavs Zēgners and Jānis Geisters who was first after the start but felt during one of the turns. With this win Dreiblats became also the series junior champion before the last race!

In ladies group just 17 year old Elīza Gailīte also was unstoppable and also managed to win and become series women champion in advance! Second place went to Elza Volonte, third Arta Skudrēna, but fourth Zhanna Ramanovich from Belarus.

In Masters Ints Barkāns grabbed the 1st spot, but Ģirts Vārtiņš was close behind. 3rd place was Artjoms Smirnovs, 4th Arguts Skudrēns, but 5th Edžus Konošonoks. All of them still continue fight for the series title in 2014!

In OPEN group every heat was super intense. In quarterfinal previous race winner & series ranking leader Jānis Jirgens felt which leaved him in 9th place.

From first semi final Gustavs Gailītis and Moscow rider Sergey Aksenov grabbed places in final, but from second Toms Dreiblats and Lithuanian rider Rytis Stankevičius.

In the big final Latvians dominated from the start – Gailītis managed to win but junior Dreiblats got his first OPEN podium grabbing 2nd place. 3rd went to Aksenov but Rytis Stankevičius got 4th.

With this win Gailītis went back to the lead in series ranking (2 wins and one race missed because of injury) just one point in front of Jirgens (5th, 1st, 9th) and Ramanovich (6th, 3rd, 5th). Series champion will be decided in the last race n 20-21 September in ‘’Rakši’’.

On the second day ‘’Skate&shoot’’ event was held of 2nd day in a row – in men group Ramanovich won, Ernests Liepiņš was second, but Masters rider Edžus Konošonoks third. For ladies Elīza Gailīte won again, Arta Skudrēna was second and Elza Volonte third.

In ‘’Slide jam’’ just 13 year old Jānis Pundiņš was awarder as hardworking grom with his impressive stand up slides.

The Latvian downhill longboarding series 2014 will end on 20-21 September with ‘’Alpacas second chance 2014’’ race next to recreation complex ‘’Rakši’’!

Madona challange 2014

On 30th and 31st of August in Madona city, ‘’Smeceres Sils’’ biathlon complex ‘’Madona longboard challenge 2014’’ will be held – this will be the 3rd race of Latvian downhill longboarding series 2014! On the first day the downhill race will happen – practice & qualification runs, as well as the final heats. On Sunday second year in a row we will have skate&shoot event – a mixture of biathlon and longboarding. Also a slide jam contest will be held.

Downhill race course – this 1,4km course is the slowest of all the courses, but at the same time quite technical and interesting even for experienced riders

In downhill event racers will compete in 4 groups – open, women, masters, juniors. In skate& shoot we will have 2 groups – men and women, but in slide jam we will have one combined group.

Entry fee for ‘’Madona longboard challenge 2014’’ – EUR 25 (for juniors – EUR 15).
If you register after 26th august + EUR 10.

Just like last year we will rent the lovely guest houses and we recommend all of you to stay there (cost is EUR 10 per person).

Alpaca Speed Festival 2014

On 5-6th July, in Amatas region, next to the recreation complex ‘’Rakši’’ (which is famous for exotic zoo – camels, lamas, alpacas etc. ) the ‘’Alpaca speed festival 2014’’ will be held (it will be the second race of Latvian downhill longboarding series 2014).

On the first day will be have practice and qualification runs, but on second day more practice runs and finals.

The race will be held in 4 groups as usual – OPEN, women, juniors (born in 1996 or later), masters (born in 1979 or before). More detailed schedule coming up next week!

The course is the fastest in Latvia, where the speed reaches 80km/h. The course is less than a kilometer long

The course will be closed during the practice runs, the bus will be taking the riders up the hill, there will be security nets and matrases on course and the doctor just in case 😉
